E ver, for ever E all ovEr

April2014 Mangalore

Emails, eticket, ecards, E commerce,E banking,  E transfers , E vites you name it, wE have it... every where, everything seem to be simply E! April is the month of E, that is for sure!!  E xams,  or E njoyment, or  Entertainment.. ..or how it is in India right now the hot and happening Elections? Or  as Rahul Gahdhi repeatedly uses the word Empowerment? whichever way where ever you go..it is simply E!
Elections...for the  biggest position  .., most powerful and most wanted, most fought and most needed ...Yes the most needed government and the winner one man  our Prime minister!!   For all of us Indians, the right government, and the right man to govern it, is what matters, true? ! ..which  is why these  Elections are going to decide, who the winner is ,and who the Leader will be! As a kid I remember having a huge framed picture of Pundit Jawahar lal Nehru in our living room. If I tell that now, no one will believe it, as we see politicians or national leaders pictures only in Police stations or at the most Government offices( I am not sure of that) But yes, my dad was a a fan of Mr. Nehru, and so we had his picture in our living room.. In fact I heard he was very disappointed when I was born just 2 days before Nehrus birthday, so he would have been very happy if I would have born on 14th November. Anyways, in our lane surprisingly the Mayor or Corporator of that city use to live, and I always use to see vehicles, with lights on, or people to meet him or traffic more than in other lanes, due to this persons stay in our locality. That is when I got to know a symbol of stretched hand means Congress party and the lady with short hair Called as Indira Gandhi, daughter of Mr. Nehru!  WE all girls in our house were given  the choice of  having Mrs. Indira Gandhi  as our role model, though I don't know if any of us ever taken it!  But her name was liberally thrown around, since she was also the Prime minister at that time. WE all learnt about the freedom fighters in our text books, so I  did know about most of them, and knew their true worth and freedom spirit. My hats are always off to Mr. Gandhi, Patel, Miss Naidu, or Tilak and Mr. Shastri. Same way Radha Krishnan, and Rajendra Prasad were fresh in our memories, thanks to Independence day parades and dramas we use to enact. Also I do remember having  something called "Emergency"  during my growing up years. Other than reading and mugging the names of the ministers and their ministerial titles for competitions and exams..politics were never my favorite field or subject. It hardly mattered if Congress won or other parties! Even during later years..I was old enough to vote, n I already was in Mangalore, married..but I never went with enthusiasm or interest to vote, as I never strongly felt for any party in general, nor any candidate in particular! But as the years passed by one thing I noticed and I was very strong about it, when and if  I went to vote was.., I never saw from the central govt point,  not even state wise, but my city!  Thats  it. I never wanted to think beyond that.. I wanted to live in better conditions, simple!!  Because of the bad roads, power cuts, no  water supply, traffic, life of mine and people around me  is what effected me and I was fierce about it. Injustice towards women, children, dishonesty, and cheating with weak and meek was always what bothered me more than whose ruling us. It did matter when I looked at our leaders  in comparison with other international leaders and I always wished we too had qualified, debonair leaders like other countries . So as the world turns on..now with more knowledge of whats happening worldly and in India particularly, I do know what is the present day political scenario.  I closely followed the American elections, Obamas Victory, speeches etc.., and also seen Movies of Mandela struggle, Or MK Gandhi's life, which are truly inspirational. But politics, and political Parties? Not my scene. who is the best?  who's side I should take and whom to vote?? who's going to win? who deserves it? Not before, but Now it matters to me. I was   impressed with the new party Aam Admi and the fresher  Mr. Aravind Kejriwal, who looked and sounded promising. I definitely wanted the party to stay and thrive in this battle and the guy to win and get a chance to prove himself. He sounded too good to be true, and if everything was for real then he was the dream man of every Indian. But sadly that did not happen.  That's why I guess most young   Indians  feel duped and cheated by the ruling government. Public has no trust or faith in our leaders. Time and again we have been   ditched by our own government. Promises made but unkempt have disheartened every Indian I am sure. The amount of crime, and shame we go through has taken our confidence from our rulers. Who ever wins, at the end of the day does it make any difference to us? This is what every one was thinking , watching!...AS long as there is no change in our lives, what excitement is it for us who  wins, is the attitude. So April is the hottest month for the hottest seat! This year the fever has gone up as the temperatures have risen. All want to take part to select and choose our Prime Minister .Every one wants to vote for a change. Who ever are  eligible  at least taking interest and pride to go to the polling booths. I can see pictures of  celebrities to common man with their black inked fingers and thumbs showing to one and all, and seem to say, look  I Voted! Hope this elections is going to bring the change every one needs. Hope this ink marks will bring  the change and a  new E era! May the best man win,...to take us forward, at least to be one among st the others, if not E quals...!
