July 2006...
Walpole, Massachusetts.... It always is fun to go to new places and getting to know new things..The local flavours, culture, people..not to forget shopping. As we were driving by from Walpole to the City my sister suddenly stoped the car in a small place round the corner saying she wants to show me some thing. I thought may be some boutique or art museum ( for which that place is famous for); and as we were going inside the place what do I see but a beautiful Gandhi statue out of no where suddenly standing amidst a beautiful garden..! Our father of the nation, "Mahatma Gandhi"!!..I had no clue what was he doing there in Sher born! Then I came to know the place is called Peace Abbey, where everything related to Peace, and nonviolence is displayed from around the world, with beautiful words and arts..and a place for any peace lovers to go and spend some quality time. Emily the Sacred cow and Gandhi the Mahatma take the center stage and it is so touching for me, an "Indian" to see our father of the nation given such high place and put on such high esteem amongst the white dominated neighbourhood. What does it tell me? It no doubt preaches, non violence, vegetarianism...but also ...we are all one , and so are our faiths and beliefs. I have to tell this, because this is done by the locals and one single person in particular, who is not an Indian, but a foreigner!!It was a real high for me to stand there and be a part of that beautiful and peaceful environment, and so wished to share this with all whom I can reach to, hoping you too can either go to Peace Abbey or read the details on the net.
